CHAPALA RESIDENCE
This project is a Georgian-Colonial, single-family home in Pacific Palisades. The clients, having grown up in the East Coast where this particular style has a strong historical background, wanted this to be their forever home, where their family could grow while also being architecturally rooted in their past. It was important that the design was authentic to the style but also provided the space and warmth for a 21st century family-friendly way of living. The process began by doing research on the historical characteristics of the style. The research manifested itself in the project’s exterior through its boxed massing, symmetry, brick material, and traditional detailing. The contemporary twist to the design is present in the open floor plan where the living room, dining room, and kitchen are adjacent to one another. Alongside the project’s contemporary qualities, the traditional style harmoniously lives in various scales of custom interior detailing. This can be found in the ceiling details, trim profiles, and millwork.
